High Temperature Materials

Kanthal Tubes

Image

Seamless extruded tubes for high temperature reactors, sensors and heaters.

Tubes that are used in gas or electrically heated furnaces must be able to withstand high temperatures. This is only one of the characteristics of Electron’s high temperature tubes. Our seamless, extruded tubes can be used at temperatures up to 1,250°C. Other user benefits include superior resistance to, for example, carburization, thermal shock, sagging and distortion. This is due to the materials' excellent mechanical properties and their capability of forming a dense and adherent oxide film that protects against corrosion and atmospheric attack.

Features

Completely seamless
For use at temperatures up to 1,250°C

Available in standard outer diameters of 26-260mm.

Long service life with Kanthal FeCrAl alloys due to excellent oxidation properties and dimensional stability

Kanthal APM & APMT

Kanthal® APM/APMT tubes have good form stability at high temperature. Kanthal® APM/APMT forms an excellent, non-scaling surface oxide, which gives good protection in most furnace environments, i.e., oxidizing, sulphurous and carburizing, as well as against deposits of carbon, ash, etc. The combination of excellent oxidation properties and form stability makes the alloy unique.

Typical applications for these radiant tubes are in electrically or gas fired furnaces such as continuous annealing and galvanizing furnaces, seal quench furnaces, holding furnaces and dosing furnaces in the aluminium, zinc, lead industries, thermocouple protection tubes, furnace muffles for sintering applications.

Kanthal AF

Kanthal® AF Tubes are the most recent innovation in radiant tubes, with their demonstrated ability to outdo most other metallic radiant tube alternatives in conventional batch, or continuous furnaces operating at furnace temperatures above 900°C.

Following extensive testing, Kanthal® AF Tubes have proven to be lighter and easier to handle than NiCr tubes, as well as delivering low spallation, very good oxidation performance and high responsiveness due to reduced wall thickness.

Kanthal® AF is a ferritic iron-chromium-aluminum alloy (FeCrAl alloy) intended for use at tube temperatures up to 1200°C (2280°F). The alloy is characterized by superior resistance to oxidation and corrosion, and forms an excellent, non-scaling surface oxide, which provides effective protection in most furnace environments. The tubes are equipped with a thin wall that reduces heat loss from the furnace as well as furnace heat-up time. It also speeds the transfer of heat from the heating element to the goods in the furnace.

The tubes are spiral welded, making them symmetrical with the same properties from every angle. They are made for vertical installation and are ideal for furnaces used for case hardening, such as in the heat treatment of components for the auto industry.
